Plot

In 1942, Steve Rogers is a sickly but determined young man who is rejected from the United States Army for the fourth time. At the Stark Expo, he is recruited by Dr. Erskine for the Strategic Scientific Reserve (SSR) to undergo an experimental procedure to become a super-soldier. After Erskine is assassinated by an agent of HYDRA, Rogers undergoes the procedure and is transformed into a muscular and healthy man with superhuman strength, speed, agility, and durability.

Rogers is given the name "Captain America" and becomes a propaganda symbol for the United States. He is sent on a USO tour with Peggy Carter, with whom he falls in love. On a mission to rescue the 107th Infantry Regiment, Rogers encounters Johann Schmidt, the leader of HYDRA, who had been transformed into a powerful and deformed being known as the Red Skull. Schmidt uses the Tesseract, a powerful energy source, to open a portal to another dimension, but Rogers is able to close the portal and defeat Schmidt.

After the war, Rogers is presumed dead when his plane crashes into the Arctic Ocean. He is frozen in ice for decades until he is discovered by S.H.I.E.L.D. in the present day. Rogers is revived and joins the Avengers, a team of superheroes who protect the world from threats.
