Captain America: The First Avenger
Captain America is a 2011 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. The film is the fifth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It was directed by Joe Johnston, written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, and stars Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America, alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Dominic Cooper, Neal McDonough, Derek Luke, and Tommy Lee Jones. The film follows Rogers, a sickly man who undergoes an experimental procedure that transforms him into the super-soldier Captain America, and must stop HYDRA from using the Tesseract to power weapons of mass destruction.
The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $370 million worldwide against a production budget of $140 million. It received generally positive reviews from critics, with praise for Evans' performance, the action sequences, and the visual effects. In Captain America: The First Avenger, Steve Rogers is a sickly man who is determined to join the military and fight in World War II. However, he is rejected due to his health. Rogers is then recruited by Dr. Erskine to participate in the Super Soldier program. The program is a success, and Rogers is transformed into the super-soldier Captain America.
Captain America is then sent to Europe to fight HYDRA, a Nazi organization that is using the Tesseract to develop weapons of mass destruction. Captain America teams up with Peggy Carter, Bucky Barnes, and the Howling Commandos to stop HYDRA. The team is successful in stopping HYDRA, but Rogers is lost in the Arctic.
Rogers is found decades later by the Avengers, who revive him. Rogers joins the Avengers and helps them to defeat Loki in The Avengers. Rogers continues to fight for justice as Captain America in the MCU.
