Captain America is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by cartoonist Jack Kirby and writer Joe Simon, he first appeared in Timely Comics' Captain America Comics #1 (March 1941). The character is alter ego Steve Rogers, a frail young man enhanced to the peak of human perfection by an experimental serum to aid the United States government's efforts in World War II. Near the end of the war, while attempting to stop a Nazi agent from sabotaging an experimental drone plane, Rogers was injected with the Super-Soldier Serum and bombarded with "vita-rays". As a result, his weak and sickly body was transformed into the maximum human potential. Rogers then donned a colorful, flag-themed costume and became Captain America.
Captain America is the leader of the Avengers, a group of superheroes who protect the Earth from threats. He is also a member of the Secret Avengers, a covert group of superheroes who operate under the radar. Captain America is a symbol of hope and courage, and he is always willing to fight for what is right.
Captain America has been featured in numerous comic books, television shows, and movies. He is one of the most popular superheroes in the world, and he is an icon of American culture.
