Spider-Man Cake
This Spider-Man cake is the perfect way to celebrate your little superhero's birthday! The cake is made with a moist chocolate cake and is filled with a creamy vanilla frosting. It's then covered in a red fondant and decorated with a web of black frosting. The cake is topped with a fondant Spider-Man mask and a cityscape made of fondant and graham crackers.

Ingredients:
For the cake:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 eggs
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
For the frosting:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 3 cups confectioners' sugar
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
For the decorations:
- 1 red fondant
- 1 black fondant
- 1 graham cracker
- 1 can of chocolate frosting
- 1 can of white frosting
- 1 Spider-Man mask mold
Instructions:
To make the cake:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter and granulated sugar together on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add in the eggs and egg yolk, one at a time, then beat in the vanilla.
- Reduce the mixer speed to low and add the dry ingredients in three additions, alternating with the buttermilk and beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
- Divide the batter between the prepared cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool completely in the pans before frosting.
To make the frosting:
- In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter and confectioners' sugar together on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
- Add the heavy cream and vanilla extract and beat until smooth.
To decorate the cake:
- Place one of the cake layers on a serving plate or cake stand. Spread some frosting on top, then add the second layer. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining frosting.
- Roll out the red fondant to a 12-inch circle. Place the fondant on top of the cake and trim the edges.
- Roll out the black fondant to a 10-inch circle. Place the fondant on top of the red fondant and trim the edges.
- Use the chocolate frosting to pipe a web on the black fondant.
- Use the white frosting to pipe a cityscape on the bottom layer of the cake.
- Place the Spider-Man mask on top of the cake.
Serve the cake immediately or store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
